Tell us a little about yourself and your family, how long you have lived in the area and your occupation.
I am 51, and moved to Post Falls after living previously in Oregon and in California. I have been married to my wife for 15 years, and we have an 11 year old son. I am a manager for GardaWorld, the world's largest privately owned security firm.
1. Do you have experience as an elected official and if so, what was your position, and how would you describe your voting record?
Other than precinct committeeman, I have not held elective office. I did run in 2008 for State Representative in Oregon, but lost to an incumbent. I did serve as staff to a number of conservative legislators in Oregon, however, and drafted and lobbied for conservative legislation.
2. Please tell us about your activity as a Republican. Have you previously voted for candidates of other parties? If yes, explain.
I have been a Republican since the age of 19, and have never registered in another party, though until that time I was fairly liberal. As a Republican, I have been a precinct committeeman, County Party Chairman (Polk County, OR), State Committeeman (called a delegate in OR), State Convention Delegate multiple times, National Convention Delegate or Alternate 2x (04, 08), District Chairman and then State Chairman of the Oregon Young Republican Federation, and a paid district director for the Oregon Republican Party / RNC during the 2004 presidential campaign. In Idaho, I was an alternate delegate to the last state convention, ran security for the 2024 Presidential Caucus location in Post Falls, and have been volunteering to canvass and stuff literature for the past several election cycles. In my previous runs for party or elective offices, I was endorsed by Oregonians in Action (Oregon's land use rights organization), Oregon Right to Life, the Oregon Taxpayers Association, the NRA, Oregonians for Immigration Reform, and other conservative individuals and organizations.
3. What is the purpose of government?
The purpose of government is to, at the direction of and accountable to the electorate, execute the legitimate functions of government as outlined in our founding documents. For those functions allowed but not enumerated in our founding documents, the principle of the least government necessary should apply - "the government that governs best governs least."
4. Describe why you are running for this particular office. What are your qualifications? What are your goals?
I am running for this office because our water district seems to have been run with conservative principles in mind...low cost, and no additives added to our water...and I want to make sure that in the new environment where the district must now come into compliance with the state statutes, we maintain conservative minded governance. I also want to ensure that the needs of the people of the district are met. For example, do we have adequate supply for the current and future drinking and irrigation needs, and do we have adequate fire protection infrastructure in place. Finally, I want to ensure that we do not add unnecessary adulterating chemicals to the water, and no medications (fluoride or vaccines, for example).
5. Describe experiences where you are or have been engaged such as non-profit organizations, clubs, churches, boards, commissions, etc., where you have been of service to others.
I attend Pathway Church in Coeur d'Alene, where I serve as head of safety, teach Sunday School, am on the discipleship team, and occasionally preach. I have been a church attender consistently since my conversion in 1994. I have been serving in conservative political activism since 2002, in both party and affiliate groups, as well as advising influencers behind the scenes. I also served as a volunteer deputy sheriff for several years.
6. Do you describe yourself as fiscally conservative? Please, elaborate.
Yes. I believe taxes should be as low as practically possible, and that politicians should not just vote to restrict tax increases, but also implement policies that do not create the need for more spending. I believe revenues that are collected in excess of government's legitimate needs should be refunded to the taxpayer or used to reduce the next year's assessments.
7. Do you consider yourself as socially conservative? Please elaborate.
Yes. I believe one cannot be fiscally conservative and socially liberal, as social liberalism causes the need for fiscal liberalism. One who describes themselves as fiscally conservative but socially moderate is, in fact, a stingy liberal that just does not want to pay taxes to fund the programs necessary to counter their irresponsible policy decisions. I am pro-life (begins at conception, exceptions for life of the mother only), and support traditional marriage, though I do not believe government should be involved in solemnizing or legitimizing anyone's marriages. I oppose drug legalization as it causes societal decay with both social and fiscal implications.
8. Describe which party platform best aligns with your positions on public policy (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Constitutional Party) and where do you disagree with that platform.
I most closely align with the Republican platform, with which I do not know of any planks I disagree with, except that I do not agree with the wording on higher education that was added to the ID platform in 2024. I do agree with that plank's intent, just not the wording. I also identify with elements of the Libertarian or Constitution parties' platforms.
9. Do you have any history of tax liens, criminal record, bankruptcy or conflict of interest that may affect your future decisions or desirability to be voted into office?
I have never been arrested, have a clean credit and driving record, and no bankruptcy. I did have a small tax lien from 1996 in CA where the state attempted to collect from me illegitimately, because CA's Franchise Tax Board is run by communists. I later cleared this lien.
10. Describe how you will make yourself available to your constituents and vote as their representative with FORTITUDE, adhering to the values and answers you have stated above.
I will be available through public meetings, emails, calls, and attendance at community functions. I believe the electorate is the boss, and the official is the servant, so the elected official must make themselves second to the people they serve. My desire to serve in office will never cause me to lose my convictions, however. I will stay true to my values and beliefs and not bend to appease those who would attempt to get me to change my core beliefs in order to maintain my office or achieve another one. If people don't like my values or voting record, they should appeal to me to change or vote me out, as is their right, but I will not change my core beliefs to appeal to those who don't share them.
