Tell us a little about yourself and your family, how long you have lived in the area and your occupation:

Married 53 years, 3 grown children, 6 grandchildren.  

My family moved to Kellogg in 1955 when my father graduated from the University of Nevada (Reno) as  a mining engineer. North Idaho is Home. 

Self -employed for over 30 years. Currently semi-retired operating a Construction and Land services  business part time.

1. Do you have experience as an elected official and if so, what was your position, and how would you describe your voting record?:

 Precinct Committeeman and State Representative. Conservative voting record.

2. Please tell us about your activity as a Republican. Have you previously voted for candidates of other parties? If yes, explain.:

I vote Republican, but sometimes reluctantly.

3. What is the purpose of government?:

Our founders said it better than I ever could. 

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice,  insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and  secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this  Constitution for the United States of America.”

4. Describe why you are running for this particular office. What are your qualifications? What are your goals?:

I have 11 years’ experience in this office. My goals are to keep Idaho a safe and family friendly place to  raise a family. 

5. Describe experiences where you are or have been engaged such as non-profit organizations, clubs, churches, boards, commissions, etc., where you have been of service to others.:

6. Do you describe yourself as fiscally conservative? Please, elaborate.:

Yes, no nation in the history of the world has been able to spend their way to prosperity. The U.S. faces  many existential threats. Our national debt is one of them.

7. Do you consider yourself as socially conservative? Please elaborate.:

Yes, many of us faced very harsh criticism a couple years ago for not supporting a bill that would have  charged the mother and doctor for aborting a child. That bill had no chance of passage in the Idaho  Legislature. Instead, we opted for a “trigger bill” that would outlaw abortion if Roe v Wade was ever  overturned. We were able to get that bill through the Legislature because the opposition did not think  

Roe would be overturned. It gives me great satisfaction to have been one of the people that helped to  stop abortion in Idaho.

8. Describe which party platform best aligns with your positions on public policy (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Constitutional Party) and where do you disagree with that platform.:

Republican. When I first ran for office seeking to become a precinct committeeman, I photocopied the  preamble to the Idaho State Republican Platform and passed it out with my literature. I proudly stated  that “that was why I am Republican”.

9. Do you have any history of tax liens, criminal record, bankruptcy or conflict of interest that may affect your future decisions or desirability to be voted into office?:

No.

10. Describe how you will make yourself available to your constituents and vote as their representative with FORTITUDE, adhering to the values and answers you have stated above.:

I am always available either by phone, email, or conventional mail. Our North Idaho legislators also avail ourselves to the town halls that are sponsored by the KCRCC.  

After 11 years I have a very lengthy voting record. I believe my values are very reflective of the District I  represent.
