A Post From A Former CDA School Board Trustee

I woke up happy to see that the levies for the CDA school district failed. Having served as a trustee, I am not ignorant to the impact that the failure will have to our schools. However, these levies needed to fail for very good reasons.

Board - you cannot call people who disagree with you “disgusting and unAmerican” and expect to find support. Your words. Not mine.

You are the “leadership” that failed the first M&O levy in nearly 40 years in CDA. That’s a harsh reality. And blaming anyone but yourselves only perpetuates the problem.

Taxpayers have very little opportunity to hold districts accountable and having to ask taxpayers for support every two years is nearly the only control we have.

You don’t acknowledge (in fact you actively ridicule and marginalize) those who disagree with you so all we have are the purse strings.

Asking for this levy to run in perpetuity takes away our control. By the way, it worked exactly how it is supposed to. You’re doing a terrible job leading. You were held accountable. We aren’t willing to give you the password to our bank accounts so you can withdraw whatever you want. It’s ridiculous to think we would.

Sadly the kids will suffer for it because you likely still won’t make the right choices nor be willing to accept this is your fault and not that of the KCRCC. All they did was point out the glaringly obvious.

Before you run this nonsense again in May (at a cost of nearly $100,000 to the tax payers) have some honest conversations and make some hard choices

Your handling of the coronavirus was a colossal failure and hurt kids. Admit it and don’t do it again.

Your handling of transgender issues in our schools has put many kids at risk. Admit it and fix it.

The district has enormous administrative bloat. Admit it and fix it.

Apologize to the people you insulted as “ignorant (Shon) disgusting and unAmerican (Casey)” and publicly censure the Board member and Administrator who said it.

Acknowledge that our graduates are entering the post secondary world woefully uneducated and unprepared and make the hard decisions that are required to fix that.

Stop running diploma mills focused on social indoctrination and start educating kids so they can thrive and succeed in a challenging world.

Don’t blame all teachers, but hold the ones that need it accountable. There are a lot.

Deal with principals who won’t address bullying in their schools or who are bullies themselves. I’ll give you the names if you want, but come on - you already know.

It’s not hard. Accountability matters. Acknowledge and accept that and then act accordingly.
