Tell us a little about yourself and your family, how long you have lived in the area and your occupation.
My wife and I, along with our adult daughter, came to Idaho in 2017 when my wife was offered a position with the Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office. I decided to retire from the San Bernardino Sheriff Department in Southern California after 31 years, retiring at the rank of Captain. We found our home on Ohio Match in May 2017 and have made this our forever home.
1. Do you have experience as an elected official and if so, what was your position, and how would you describe your voting record?
I do not. I have not held public elected office.
2. Please tell us about your activity as a Republican. Have you previously voted for candidates of other parties? If yes, explain.
To the best of my recollection, I have always voted for Republican candidates and conservative proposals.
3. What is the purpose of government?
To serve the citizens according to their charter in a fiscally responsible manner and with due regard for their rights.
4. Describe why you are running for this particular office. What are your qualifications? What are your goals?
I'm a resident of the district who appreciates the work the Board does to serve the residents of our community, and I understand it takes people who are willing to volunteer their time and effort to benefit all of those who live in the district. I have previously been involved in the design, construction, and operation of a large commercial water well and treatment facility that served a large jail in Southern California. My goals are to volunteer my time and experience to serve my neighbors.
5. Describe experiences where you are or have been engaged such as non-profit organizations, clubs, churches, boards, commissions, etc., where you have been of service to others.
I have previously served as a board member, vice-president, and president of a 1500-member gun club in Southern California. I was asked by the NRA to serve as the Training Counselor Coordinator for the State of Idaho. I have also served as a member and chair of California Code of Regulations Title 15 and 24 committees that promulgated regulations for jail operations and design standards for jails in all of California's 58 counties.
6. Do you describe yourself as fiscally conservative? Please, elaborate.
I do, in my 31 years in working in government I have firsthand experience dealing with government spending and budgeting. Government only spends money that it first takes from citizens and businesses, and I believe government owes it to taxpayers to be efficient and transparent in both its scope, budgeting, and spending.
7. Do you consider yourself as socially conservative? Please elaborate.
I am definitely a "family first" person. I believe the family is the nucleus of how we operate as a community, it is the place where values are instilled, and we learn to act positively with others. I am pro-life. I am pro-school choice.
8. Describe which party platform best aligns with your positions on public policy (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Constitutional Party) and where do you disagree with that platform.
The Republican Party best aligns with my values. I disagree with the party (or any party for that manner) when individual liberties are infringed on.
9. Do you have any history of tax liens, criminal record, bankruptcy or conflict of interest that may affect your future decisions or desirability to be voted into office?
No
10. Describe how you will make yourself available to your constituents and vote as their representative with FORTITUDE, adhering to the values and answers you have stated above.
Being retired I have great flexibility and availability to my neighbors in the district. I would be available by email and phone, as well as having the ability to meet with them at their homes should they desire to meet there. How I vote would be determined by listening intently to those affected by the outcome and weighing the issue according to the principles I've laid out. I'm used to hearing opposing viewpoints, weighing potential outcomes, and making a decision in an ethical, transparent, and responsible manner.
