Tell us a little about yourself and your family, how long you have lived in the area and your occupation. I am married and the father of 5 children. I am a practicing radiologist doing part time clinical work and also serve as a consultant to a medical AI company. Our family started coming to CDA for work meetings in 2018 and, coming from western Washington, we were pleasantly surprised (actually shocked) to see that there were still places where the American flag was proudly flown, where law enforcement officers were appreciated, and where government respected traditional values and freedoms. We bought land in 2020, built a house and finally were able to move here in mid 2024. We are so grateful to be in this wonderful state!
1. Do you have experience as an elected official and if so, what was your position, and how would you describe your voting record?
I have not served in public elected office.
2. Please tell us about your activity as a Republican. Have you previously voted for candidates of other parties? If yes, explain.
I have supported the Republican party for 30+ years in many capacities: doorbelling for candidates, waving campaign signs, stuffing envelopes in party offices, walking precincts and handing out literature, financially supporting the party and many candidates and initiatives. I lived many years in Washington State where there are open primaries (a very bad idea!) and where the top two vote-getters go on to the general election (another bad idea) so I have sometimes had no choice but to vote for the lesser of two evils among candidates from other parties.
3. What is the purpose of government?
The purpose of government is to serve the people, primarily by protecting their rights: "That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men." The least government that is sufficient to secure our rights, the better.
4. Describe why you are running for this particular office. What are your qualifications? What are your goals?
Worley Highway District does great work maintaining our extensive road system. If we can help provide the same or better service while limiting the tax increases allowed by the state, that will be a win for the taxpayers.
5. Describe experiences where you are or have been engaged such as non-profit organizations, clubs, churches, boards, commissions, etc., where you have been of service to others.
I spent 15 years working with the Washington State Medical Association, the largest physician organization in the state (at that time, 11,000+ members), most of that time as a board member and many years as an officer, including as president. I have served on various private company boards for many years and as multiple officer positions in professional practices and investment groups.
6. Do you describe yourself as fiscally conservative? Please, elaborate.
Yes. I am parsimonious with funds under my care, equally with my own as with those entrusted to me by virtue of an office or position. A good foundational approach to government spending is to recognize that it isn't the government's money that governments spend, it's the people's money, taken from them by taxation.
7. Do you consider yourself as socially conservative? Please elaborate.
Yes. I support traditional family values and human life. Mother Theresa once said, powerfully, “It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.” Human happiness ultimately comes not from libertinism - doing whatever you want - but from doing what you ought.
8. Describe which party platform best aligns with your positions on public policy (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Constitutional Party) and where do you disagree with that platform.
Republican.
9. Do you have any history of tax liens, criminal record, bankruptcy or conflict of interest that may affect your future decisions or desirability to be voted into office?
No.
10. Describe how you will make yourself available to your constituents and vote as their representative with FORTITUDE, adhering to the values and answers you have stated above.
Life is too short to do the wrong thing. In elected office, why bother to serve if you are not prepared to stick to your values and do the right thing? It is so disappointing to hear people say all the right things, go off to wherever they are serving, get captured by the institution and then chicken out and fail to make tough votes or stand up for the issues about which they were so eloquent when asking for your vote (we've all seen that play out ad nauseum). I've had plenty of sticks and stones thrown at me over the years, and I don't worry about it as long as it's for doing what I think is right. Regarding being available, it would be by responding promptly by email or phone.
