Resolution Regarding HB439 Party Affiliation Deadline
WHEREAS, extremist groups (socialists, progressives, democrats, RINOs, etc.) in Idaho have substantially abandoned attempts to run reasonable candidates against Republican primary winners in the General Election; and
WHEREAS, rather than working to improve the quality of their candidates, these extremist groups are begging their members to affiliate with the Republican party so that they can vote in the Republican primary with the objective of electing inferior candidates; and
WHEREAS, current Idaho election law provides that registered voters who are affiliated with a political party may change their affiliation up to the candidate filing deadline for the subsequent election; and
WHEREAS, current Idaho election law also provides that registered voters who are NOT affiliated with a political party may change their affiliation up to Election Day (at the polls); and
WHEREAS, House Bill 439 has been introduced in the 2022 session of the Idaho Legislature; and
WHEREAS, House Bill 439 would harmonize the deadline for party affiliation, regardless of current affiliation status, to the candidate filing deadline for the subsequent election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee (KCRCC) encourages our Republican Legislators to adopt House Bill 439; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the KCRCC Secretary shall immediately forward this resolution to all 9 Kootenai County elected legislators.
ADOPTED by the KCRCC, January 25th, 2022
